SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz A 25 AMG - first road appearance

Following the many reports regarding the possibility of an AMG variant for the next A-Class, spy photographers have recently spotted the first test prototype of a so-called A 25 AMG running initial tests on the streets of Affalterbach.

What was once a rumor is now about to become reality in a matter of years. Specifically, the new A 25 AMG will be unveiled in 2013, almost a year after the introduction of the standard A-Class, which is derived from - visually speaking. The similarities end up there, as AMG are fully in charge of mastering this little devil on four wheels. That's why the engineers are now secretly working on a new, special 4x4 powertrain for the car, to help cope with the immense output and torque of the engine bound to be installed under the bonnet: a supercharged, 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine boasting around 320 hp-350 hp and developed together with the Swiss experts from Hyprex. Put together with the above-mentioned details a revised exterior design that carries the unmistakable AMG signature (a new, greater radiator grille, huge air intakes all over the place, special alloy wheels, quad-exhausts, a discrete spoiler and a rear diffuser, a bespoke interior etc.) and you'll have one of the very best sports packages in the compact class, hard to equal, hard to beat by any of the few competitors that exist or will be released in the coming period of time.

SPY: 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class - car paparazzies spot it for the first time

This day's been very rich in spy photos: after we saw the A-Class, it's time to draw our attention to a future niche model: the CLC-Class (neither BLS nor CLA). Don't be confused, as the new car won't have anything in common with the awkward hatchback, already discontinued. Internally dubbed C 117, the CLC will be part of the forthcoming compact family of Mercedes-Benz, will be launched in 2013 and it could be generally seen as the little brother of the CLS. Although it may look a bit bloated due to the extensive camouflage, the beautiful car hidden underneath the black tape is likely to have a balanced, well-proportioned shape. Inspiration for the exterior and interior designs will come from the current CLS-Class and is expected to set high benchmarks in its class in terms of build quality, elegance and efficiency. Engines and technology will be borrowed from the new A-Class and B-Class, but we feel there's more to come: a top version motorized by a petrol/diesel burner with up to 250-300 hp and probably an AMG variant also.

SPY: 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class - first-ever scoops break loose on the internet

This evening marks a premiere, as spy photographers were able to get the first shots of a massively-camouflaged 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class prototype running on a private test track. Although they share the same platform, the two flagships of the upcoming compact range of the German constructor haven't begun the usual testing phase at the same time. Whereas the B-Class has already covered thousands and thousands of kilometers since 2009, engineers sent the new A-Class on streets just one year ahead of its scheduled unveiling. However, this doesn't automatically mean the car has not been developed behind closed doors, in the Merc's secret R&D labs. Seeing the Concept A-Class in April, the test model bears a lot of resemblance to the show vehicle revealed in Shanghai, at least in what the overall form is concerned. The first variant in the new lineup is a five-door hatchback, as the one in the scoop pics, but a more sports-oriented, three-door version similar to the concept is also in cards. Losing the bulky, rather unattractive MPV shape of the outgoing model means the new A-Class will gun for the BMW 1er and the Audi A3. The main artilery of the car for the fight is the spectacular MFA platform, which promises to be a trendsetter in the segment in areas such as modularity, efficiency and ride behaviour. Along with the A-Class, a new range of low-displacement Renault engines will debut, as part of the partnership signed last year. Mercedes-Benz will be in charge of supplying the high-end powerplants: the A 250 BlueEFFICIENCY and the A 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, both capable of delivering 204 hp of peak output. The official tuner of the Stuttgart-based carmaker, AMG, is reportedly working on a super A-Class: the A 25 AMG, packing a new supercharged, 4-cylinder engine boasting 350 hp and an all-wheel-drive platform.

First unit of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé range delivered in Bremen

A festive day at the Mercedes-Benz Plant in Bremen, Germany, yesterday, as the first C-Class Coupé was handed over to its lucky owner. Andreas Schwarze together with his wife came to collect their new car, a base version model finished in Obsidian black paint job. According to the client, two-door vehicles are a solidly-establish tradition in his family and this is already the fifth Mercedes-Benz they owned through time. Andreas Kellermann, chief of the factory, stated he is proud that this expressive model is an exclusive addition to the prestigious Mercedes-Benz lineup and that it will surely be warmly-welcomed in the market segment it was created for. The new C-Class Coupé is standardly equipped with BlueEFFICIENCY package for the engines and the AGILITY CONTROL chassis, it becomes available beginning with a starting price of 33,290 euros and it is assembled at the Bremen facility alongside the other two C-Class models, the new SLK, the SL and the GLK.

Nov 11 Happy Veterans Day, fellow vets

After some thought, I figure a bit of concept might help, or not, as I'm going to put out a lot of stuff that I've found cool or helpful relating to musclecars... and occasionally the car hobby in general.

A wounded Marine went to the San Diego Speed Fest with me this year, and was keen on the race cars and muscle cars in general, but didn't have any familiarity with most of the race cars, history, or inspirational figures in US auto racing. He was soaking up all I could think of the tell him, but our time was limited to walking through the pits, and what little I could think of off the cuff to fill in why some cars we looked at were special, and who made them that way.

I realized that I have been learning alot since I was about 6, and was first given a blue 69 Corvette Hot Wheels car triggering a admiration for sports cars, musclecars, and hot rods... the learning will never end, and I can pass on a lot of interesting stuff to others. If any one were to ask to look at a magazine I have, I'd pass it over to them, show the pictures, tell the stories, fill them in on my opinion.. that kind of thing. This blog will be the same as if anyone were to stop by my garage and bench race for a while. So all the pics, articles, and info that I can attribute to a source, will be listed as to where I found it... if I know, just like letting anyone look at the stuff I have, and I can't see how that violates any rules about copywrite, etc... so since I have this stuff to share, I have no idea how it can be wrong to let more people see it in a far more technological way that passing around an old copy of Hot Rod, Motor Trend, Cars, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, Hemmings Muscle Cars, Muscle Car Enthusiast, Motor Trend Classic, American Rodder, Muscle Car Review, or any thing else I subscribe to, have subscribed to, or paid for along the way.

I've been reading most of the magazines since I could afford the 9.99 a year subscription, or could find a copy at a library. Some great stuff has been put out once upon a time and never shown up again, but anyone who kept a copy can show you some long forgotten issue that had a cool article, and thats what I'm going to do right here. Some very cool guys that inspire me to learn more about car crafting, upgrading, restoring, and tricks to improve a car will get some ink here. Marlan Davis, Smokey Yunick, Gray Baskerville, Art Arfons, Vic Edelbrock, Mickey Thompson, Carroll Shelby, Enzo Ferrari, Matt King, Fireball Roberts, Harvey Earl, Henry Ford, are just some I can think of off the top. Enjoy.

It's a start

In the beginning, men became fed up with walking.

Then they realized that horses left piles of manure in the roads.

Soon, the marvelous elixer of gasoline was concocted, meanwhile Goodyear discovered the method of vulcanizing rubber.... and the birth of the internal combustion engine! Voila!

The automobile was on it's way to changing human culture, art, and transportation.
