Mustang Saleen S7 Twin Turbo Design Sport Car

Mustang-Saleen-S7-Twin-Turbo-Design-Sport-Car

Saleen knows all about power. As in S281 Mustangs, N2O Focuses and the S7, America’s first (and still the only) mid-engine exotic supercar. When it went on sale in 2002, the S7 was the only street-legal car in the U.S. with more than 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The media and S7 owners have raved about the car since it first smoked the rear tires in anger. And it has been recognized by numerous automotive magazines as the fastest production car in the world. But during the past three years the automobile marketplace has witnessed an explosion of performance with models from manufacturers including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Chevrolet touting power numbers above the once magic 500 level.
Designed by Saleen engineers, the S7's engine and drivetrain incorporate the latest in modern racing technology. The new all-aluminum V8 engine casting was engineered and tooled by Saleen to displace seven liters. Redline is 6500 rpm. Space age materials and engineering are used throughout, including stainless steel valves, titanium retainers, beryllium exhaust valve seats, an aluminum throttle body, Saleen designed aluminum CNC-machined cylinder heads and stainless steel exhaust system. An exclusive Saleen-designed Front Engine Accessory Drive (FEAD) system results in an extremely compact engine, allowing for better packaging and overall weight distribution. The V8 incorporates a unique Saleen-designed side-mounted water pump, a belt-driven camshaft drive and a Saleen-engineered dry sump oil delivery system. The engine's mid-chassis placement optimizes weight distribution and center of gravity, making room for an unusually tall engine that allows for a very efficient induction system. Air enters a roof intake, passes through a 90-mm mass air meter and feeds into a carbon fiber plenum. From the plenum the air is routed to the twin ball bearing turbos, is pressurized to 5.5 psi max and then passes through an oval-bore throttle body into an aluminum intake manifold with eight individual runners.

Just how many special edition Mustangs are there?

And why?

I'm including everything I know of that comes after the word Mustang. Or before. Or instead of, but means that it's a special Mustang

GT
GT500
Cobra
Bullit
R
Parnelli Jones
Rousch
Blackjack
Saleen
Steeda
SDS (San Diego Special)
Foose Stallion
GT350
GT CS (California Special)
Street Scene
Susan G Kolmen pink stripe package
Cannonball World

and if I spent a couple of minutes on the web, I'm sure I could double this list.

18 thousand miles since new... probably to and from the 1/4 mile, and lots of times down the track

1968 Shelby GT 500 KR, Nascar tunnel ram 427 side oiler. Only 900 miles on it since 1970... think investment. 13.5 to 1 compression, think 115 octane or better, expensive to get even 900 miles along.
With probably 6 or 7 miles per gallon on this dual quad gas pump, a 20 gallon tank, and around 8 bucks a gallon, I think it may be close to guess that they've only burned up about 1200 bucks in gas in 37 years. Thats 900 miles in 37 years = 24 miles a year = 4 gallons of fuel a year.

The Rumble seat Mustang you've never seen or learned of, except here

I've posted on these before,
http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2006/12/parade-mustang-with-rumble-seat-1-of-4.html#links

Suprised the hell out of me, one went up for auction at Barrett Jackson and they didn't promote it... wow, missed chance there to spread the word. I'll be looking through the magazines to see how many were at the auction and noticed this rarity

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/carlist/cardetails.asp?In_AuctionID=221&In_LotNumber=428.1

Went for 48 thou.

"This particular package was a joint effort by Ford and Autocraft of Dearborn, MI. The option was not shown on the build sheet or Ford window sticker because the conversion was done after assembly. It was a "Blossom-Time" sales promotion offered only during April 1969 to certain Michigan dealers. Documented by 2 different magazine articles, it is still un-certain exactly how many were done. This one is believed to be the only one in "Meadowlark Yellow". This one was built April 16, 1969 and delivered to Jack Dykstra Ford in Lansing, MI."

Parade Mustang with rumble seat, 1 of 4

This is just one of four Playboy Pink special builds for parades.

Possibly the same as this listing 1969 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE, V-8, PINK, PRESENTED TO PLAYMATE OF THE YEAR IN 1969 BY HUGH HEFNER, TROPHY WINNER, FRAME OFF RESTORATION, GARAGE KEPT AND COVERED., Vehicle condition: 2, Lot No.: 459, Highest Bid: $12200 - SOLD Ft. Myers, FL - March 20 & 21 1999. No image. http://www.carsonline.com.au/usauctions.html#Myers

Of course, this website and picture states the playmate of the year was given an AMX, "an all pink AMX was given to Playboy's Playmate of the Year, Angela Dorian. She still owns the car, but she seems to like the Rolling Stones, as she since painted it black" http://www.american-motors.de/en/history/60s/

This is the picture link http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/articles/pb0568-3.jpg

This car is so unknown that it doesn't even show up or get mentioned on this website devoted to freaking rare mustangs... http://www.limited600mustang.com/specials.html

Can you tell what makes this GT / CS one of a kind?

The story of this is unusual too, this was of course put together from a good candidate for restoration, and a donor car.... but the donor car was the unusual part. This guy is easy to talk to and he told me how this one of a kind happened to be... he was visiting family when he happened to drive past a GT/CS in the front of someones yard. He asked if it were for sale, and the old owners told him it was his if he would tow it away. It was in the front yard because the dad had given it to his son on the day of the drivers license test getting passed, but the spoiled son (c'mon, who is given one of these for passing a drivers license test?) threw a temper tantrum the size and shape of a fired brick through the windshield screaming how he didn't want this old piece of crap, he demanded a new car. Dad was dumbfounded, and reversed years of ruining his son with favoritism by punching him out, and parking the GT/CS in the front yard, and letting it rot away... hence the parts car -yours if you tow it away- availability. If I remember right, that's how the story goes.

Ford never made a convertable GT/CS, this owner wanted one bad enough to make it from a GT/CS and a donor ordinary convertable. Car guy trivia.
