OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Stuttgart, Germany, May 12, 2011 – Mercedes-Benz is ushering in the season with the new, high-quality Bike Selection 2011. This offers a choice of a full-suspension mountain bike, a sporty and elegant fitness bike, a comfortable trekking bike suitable for day-to-day use and a high-end carbon-fibre racing bike. Mercedes-Benz also caters for children with a particularly variable kids' bike, which can be converted into a straddle-bike in a trice. All the products in the Bike Selection were developed and produced in cooperation with the Hessian premium bike manufacturer ADP Rotwild, and feature modern, innovative technology together with quality in keeping with the Mercedes-Benz brand.
In its Bike Selection 2011, Mercedes-Benz combines uniquely attractive and innovative frames with dedicated, up-to-date components by well-known manufacturers such as SRAM, Fox Racing, DT Swiss and Topeak. One of the stars in this exclusive range is the new All Mountain mountain bike, which particularly shows its strengths off the beaten track. Efficient and safe handling is ensured by a Fox Racing F32 RL suspension fork and a DT Swiss suspension strut, each with a spring travel of 120 mm. Gears are shifted by a 30-speed SRAM X.9 system, and the brakes are hydraulic AVID Elixir 5 disc brakes with a disc diameter of 185 mm. DT Swiss X1900 wheels complete this functional package. The Mercedes-Benz All Mountain mountain bike weighs 12.8 kg and is available in frame heights 47 cm, 50 cm and 53 cm.
The fitness bike with a lockable Suntour XCR suspension fork and hydraulic disc brakes has become a classic among Mercedes-Benz bikes. An unmistakable frame design and a fashionable white paint finish underline the sporty character of this bike model. The fitness bike is available in three frame heights (48 cm, 51 cm, 54 cm).
The trekking bike has the same attractive genes as the fitness bike. Equipped with a mudguard, luggage carrier and a Busch & Müller lighting system including a Shimano hub dynamo, this is a reliable day-to-day companion equally suitable for extended recreational bike tours. The trekking bike is available in frame heights 51 cm and 54 cm.
The Limited racing bike weighs only 6.8 kg thanks to its carbon-fibre frame, which is produced on the tube-to-tube principle. Its exclusive features include SRAM Red gearshift and brake components, as well as lightweight DT Swiss RR 1450 racing wheels. Formula 1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg also use this high-end bike to prepare for the new Grand Prix season. The racing bike is available in frame heights 49 cm, 53 cm, 56 cm, 58 cm and 61 cm and is a limited edition of 100.
The kids' bike is a particularly clever solution as a flexible companion when learning to ride a bicycle. Thanks to its 2-in-1 concept, it can be quickly converted from a 16“ kids' bike into a straddler. In straddler form it makes the first biking attempts particularly easy and enjoyable, develops the sense of balance and considerably eases the child's entry into the world of bikes with pedals. The kids' bike is available in the colours white, red metallic and pink metallic, is suitable for children aged 3 to approx. 6 years.
The Mercedes-Benz Bike Selection also includes high-quality bike clothing and useful accessories for cyclists. These products were developed in cooperation with well-known companies such as deuter sport, uvex, Topeak and Sigma Sport.
