Mercedes-Benz Classic - Innovation at its best: the Mercedes-Benz SL 107 model series
The SL roadster of the R 107 series is one of the most fashionable open-top models in the history of Mercedes-Benz. Borrowing the essential, elegant, straight lines of the outgoing 'Pagoda' and reinterpreting them in a very passionate way, the new convertible that began its 18-year career in 1971 paved the way to a new, bold design era for the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer. The customers who bought the SL were able to opt either for a classy soft-top version or for a fixed roof variant of the car. In addition, the new R 107 model brought along with it a new safety concept, that included an innovative frontal crumple zone in the body and shell structure and A-pillars designed to withstand great impact forces.
