Major Turkish customer orders 50 Setra coaches


The Turkish transport operator Metro has recently put in an order to receive a fleet of 50 Setra S 416 GT-HD/2 twin-axle coaches manufactured at the Neu-Ulm facility, that adds to the firm's already impressive lineup of over 150 vehicles. This latest acquisition is establishing a milestone for the company, as these coaches are the first examples of the new facelifted Setra ComfortClass 400 range to enter into service for Metro. The 50 units of the S 416 GT-HD/2 range will be delivered starting with late May up to early June this year.

Neu-Ulm/Istanbul, Germany/Turkey, Mar 23, 2011 – Setra has won a major contract from the country on the Bosporus, with Turkish bus operator Metro placing an order for 50 new Setra S 416 GT-HD/2 coaches in Neu-Ulm. A Setra partner since 2002, this major customer based in Istanbul is thereby increasing the number of Setra coaches in its fleet to 214. The two-axle Setra ComfortClass 400 vehicles will be delivered from late May to early June of this year.


Established in 1992 by Galip Ötztürk, Metro cooperates with subcontractors on the long-distance routes that are so popular in Turkey. Its fleet covers 73 of the country’s 81 provinces. Having added a total of 40 double-decker S 431 DT coaches to its fleet from 2008 to 2009, the latest order represents a further milestone for the company. The 50 S 416 GT-HD/2 coaches will be Metro’s first from the new Setra ComfortClass 400. The vehicles from this facelifted model series are equipped with Front Collision Guard (FCG) impact protection and can accommodate 50 passengers.

Luxury coaches provided by the Ulm-based Daimler bus and coach brand have been travelling on Turkish roads for 27 years now. In the gateway to the Orient, the new Setra TopClass 400 and new Setra ComfortClass 400 coaches are predominately used on long-distance routes in the luxury segment.
