PREVIEW: More light on the upcoming Mercedes-Benz B-Class
With the new B-Class reveal almost ringing at the door, Autocar has managed to uncover some of the secrets regarding the engine lineup of this Mercedes-Benz MPV. The entry level burner will be a 1.6-liter petrol unit in two output stages: 125 hp and 156 hp. If you are diesel fan, then you might consider the anticipated 1.8-liter CDI motor with either 110 hp or 136 hp. Moving forward towards the mighty powerplants, customers will be able to pick between the two offered variants: a 2.1-liter diesel engine with 204 hp and a 1.8-liter gasoline unit with 204 hp, as well. Earlier reports have indicated the possibility of an AMG variant for both the new A- and B-Class models, that could pack around 320 hp - 350 hp and offer a special 4x4 powertrain, a complete premiere for a Mercedes-Benz model tweaked in Affalterbach. While this fact is still uncertain, we know the MFA platform prepped for the future compact range will make it easier to accommodate further alternative powering choices. Beginning 2013 or later, one could see a whole series of green B-Class variants: fuel-cell, compressed natural gas, full electric and hybrid.
