PREVIEW: An early look at the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class
We thought they learnt from the past errors, but it seems this wasn't the case. Mercedes-Benz was once again caught unprotected, as the secrecy around the second generation B-Class was destroyed hours ago by Autobild, which published the first photos depicting the compact MPV. Set for an official reveal at the IAA Frankfurt in September, the new B-Class is characterised by a bold, elegant and rather mature aura. Although it is a visible evolution in terms of styling compared to the current model, one cannot simply mistake the new car with the old one, due mostly to the fact designers were able to create a powerful personality for the W 246. The crisp front fascia, with the new LED headlamps and the angled grille with two silver louvres, the sharp side profile, dominated by the playful lines and the impressive alloy wheels, and the beautiful rear end, which optimally blends with the rest of the car, are all attributes of the latest Mercedes-Benz design philosophy. Gorden Wagener mentioned sometime ago the new B-Class will be a step ahead of the C-Class in terms of interior quality. Seeing the photos, that passenger shuttle looks simply precious, as the carefully-trimmed dashboard consist of an impecable game of attractive shapes. The SLS-inspired triple air vents placed at the top of the center console, the media interface and the aircon control panel, together with the big display for the COMAND infotainment system, are certain to attract a lot of views. After this early leak, we expect the first official photos with the new B-Class to be released in the coming three to four weeks, to serve as a preview ahead of the premiere at the German motorshow.
